An MDIO, short for Multidistrict Information Organization, is a multidistrict organization among Rotaract Clubs of participating districts. Rotaract Clubs from two or more districts can form a multidistrict organization under certain conditions:

  • There are no objections from the governors of the districts involved, and RI's General Secretary authorizes the organization's development and continuation;
  • The organization follows RI's policies;
  • Each member district is represented by its respective DR;
  • Payment of funds to carry out activities is not made mandatory;
  • The organization has neither decision-making nor legislative power;
  • The organization establishes a voting mechanism controlled by the district governors.

The organization's purpose is to create a sense of community among members of the region involved, offering leadership-development opportunities above the level of clubs and districts, and encouraging the relationship between Rotary and Rotaract at every level.

Every MDIO adopts its own constitution and bylaws, in line with RI's policies.

MDIOs can also be international, made up of multiple districts based in different countries. For example, District 2080 is part of the MDIO called MED, covering the Mediterranean area. In this case, an Italian Country Representative exists, even though not all Italian districts are MED members.

At national level, there can be cases where all — and only — the districts of one country belong to an MDIO, such as Rotaract Canada, or cases where not all of a country's districts belong to the national MDIO, such as Rotaract France.

Two or more districts wishing to organize an MDIO must involve:

  • The governor of the district where the meeting will be held;
  • The relevant district Rotaract committee;
  • The relevant DR;
  • All governors of the districts involved.

The hosting governor is the event's primary point of responsibility. All remaining governors must give their approval for the meeting to take place. Further requirements are set out in the Rotary Code of Policies, article 12, sections 090 and 100.

There is a defined procedure for service projects. Clubs belonging to two or more different districts may proceed provided that:

  • The service is sustainable for the clubs involved;
  • The district Rotaract Representatives give their consent, and two-thirds of the clubs approve the project;
  • The governors give their approval;
  • The service is carried out under the direct supervision of the R.R.D.s;
  • It involves Rotaract clubs or individual Rotaractors on a voluntary basis.
